No. 6 on my list of all-time favorite Grisham novels. This is the story that is based on Grisham's own childhood, and it is one of the most dear to me as a fellow small-town Southerner. I see my own ancestors in the story told here, and I love the book all the more for it.

This copy was another $1.00 clearance hardcover from Half-Price Books.

Finished reading this tonight. I really enjoyed it, especially after reading the "King of Torts". Unlike that one, it seems that Grisham has put his heart and soul into this book.

Great book from Grisham - not his usual courtroom scenes but nontheless, a deeply moving story based on his own childhood. Well worth the time to read this account of the deeps south.

I enjoyed this book very much. I liked the family and appreciated their struggle to bring in a good crop before the rains come.

Mailed to purple-pixie.

One of my favourite reads of the year so far. Luke's childhood proved such a contrast to the childhood my own sons and their peers enjoyed, yet were my boys any happier? I think not. The thing that came across to me most strongly was the importance of values - knowing what your values are and sticking to them. This certainly saw the Chandler family through tough times.
