humourous story by young novelist

Journal Entry 2 by SerenityBlue from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Thursday, March 17, 2005
Just amazing writing this woman is odd but a terrific writer. It is a fictional story about a girl adopted by a religious fanatic and her husband who is revered by the church until she screws up by having a lesbian affair and is ostracized. She intermingles history, folklore, fairy tales and goes off on a tangent from one thing to another while still enabling us to fill in the plot. She uses acronyms and euphamisms throughout the book makiing you believe you are totally mad yourself. Can't wait to get another book by her:)

I really enjoyed this. At times it was hysterically funny, particularly the descriptions of the narrator's mother and her church cronies. Never mean-spirited, though; you can see that despite her harsh treatment at the hands of her fellow churchfolk she is really devoted to them all in a strange and touching way. The book overall is quite touching and honest, with a very genuine heart at its core. The contrast between the contemporary coming-of-age tale and the fantasy world of the mythologies and fairy tales she conjures up and interjects into the narrative makes for a unique and captivating story. Very likable and endearing book.
