I picked this one up when browsing in a new bookstore, because I had some trouble following the show when I saw it in New York years ago. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read this book beforehand. Written from the viewpoint of a person investigating mysterious events at the Paris Opera years after they transpired, the story is reconstructed from the testimony of witnesses. Singer Christine Daae’s voice entrances Raoul, and they fall in love. But Christine is under the power of the Phantom. Christine disappears dramatically during a performance, as she is about to elope with Raoul. Can Raoul rescue her?
