From Preview magazine:-
'This is James at her best, a classic whodunit meticulously structured and featuring poet/policeman Adam Dalgliesh, who is now dealing with politically sensitive crime. The Dupayne, a private museum on the edge of Hampstead Heath, is threatened with closure because a family trustee is refusing to sign a lease. When he is gruesomely murdered, Commander Dalgliesh is called in. The killer seems to be taking inspiration from the museum's Murder Room, a gallery displaying exhibits from notorious crimes of the 1920s and 30s. Dalgliesh has problems too in his private life. He is in love with Cambridge tutor Emma Lavenham, but the relationship seems doomed - every time he makes a date with her, he has to cancel because a body turns up. Will Dalgliesh get his murderer and his girl?'

I enjoy P D James so had to get this to add to the tbr pile.

Can't believe I have had this on the pile for so long. I know I made a false start with it once. Anyway I'm reading it now and I'm happy to say I'm really enjoying it. I've just been reading a few things that didn't seem to have much narrative 'thrust' (if you will pardon the expression), so this makes a welcome change. I'm all ready to renew my unrequited love for Inspector Dalgliesh.

Got really involved with this. I think PD James spins an exceptional yarn. As with so many whodunits it's not so much about who did it, but more about the process of discovery. I find myself just enjoying the storytelling - the final revelation seems to me almost inconsequential. Adam Dalgliesh remains my favourite cop (actually, he is so British that he can only be a policeman). In Dalgliesh PD James has created such a rounded, sustained character she is to be commended. To me he steps off the page; I almost expect to see him being interviewed one day on the telly - standing outside Scotland Yard of course! The book could be criticised on the grounds of being overly middle class and a bit 'soft', but I love it; bodies in museums make a change from bodies in downtown dumpsters. Dalgliesh has a love interest in this novel, although it is almost an afterthought and a very minor part of the book. I'm not sure that it works, or indeed is necessary. But I may be biased because I just want Dalgliesh for myself! Probably not James' best but a cracking read all the same.

Picked this up at the November York BC Meet, and it was well recommended by several people there, so I'm taking it with me to London this weekend to read on the train! It's set in London too it seems, so that will be appropriate..

As soon as I read the first few pages properly, I realised I'd read this! Doh! So, I'm going to move it on quickly by taking it to the Festival of Angels mass release. It was (when I read it ages ago!) entertaining in usual PD James style.
