Mailed to a Toronto BookCrosser - CestMoi on Oct 29, 2002
Just received from anoppbrat. Thank you :)

Just finished reading this, its like a series of essays about her thoughts on the heritage and history of her race and all the elements that Africans brought to the US when they were enslaved that were undefeatable and still exist today - love of family, music and art are predominantly her focus.
Her writing style is easy to read, almost like sitting down to a cup of tea with her and just having a chat. I really enjoyed this, I read it in one sitting and then read it again because it is promised to another bc'er but I wanted to read it one more time before letting it go.
One part stands out to me the most and I'll quote it here...
We need to remember to teach our children that solitude can be a much-to-be desired condition. Not only is it acceptable to be alone, at times it is positively to be wished for.
It is in the interludes between being in company that we talk to ourselves. In the silence we listen to ourselves. Then we ask questions of ourselves. We describe ourselves to ourselves, and in the quietude we may even hear the voice of God.
I am mailing this to another bc'er Jess1 on Monday.

Received this in the mail from a fellow bookcrosser. Thank you! I will make another journal entry when I'm finished.
