The Sea, the Sea

Middle-period Murdoch. A theatre director (and occasional playwright) retires, leaves London, and moves to an isolated home on the coast near the sea. There, he continues "directing," only he's working on real people rather than actors. Predictably, chaos ensues.
Well-written, especially since Murdoch gives us one of her most unpleasant protagonists here.
