A novel from internationally acclaimed author Paulo Coelho -- a dramatic story of love, life and death that shows us all why every second of our existence is a choice we all make between living and dying. Veronika has everything she could wish for. She is young and pretty, has plenty of boyfriends, a steady job, a loving family. Yet she is not happy; something is lacking in her life, and one morning she decides to die. She takes an overdose of sleeping pills, only to wake up some time later in the local hospital. There she is told that her heart is damaged and she has only a few days to live. The story follows Veronika through these intense days as to her surprise she finds herself experiencing feelings she has never really felt before. Against all odds she finds herself falling in love and even wanting to live again...

Couldn't resist after reading The Devil & Miss Prym earlier this year.

I much prefered this to The Devil & Miss Prym. It was an interesting read and made me think a little about psychology and mental states. I guessed the ending quite early on but that didn't detract from the unfolding of Veronika's week in Vilette.

Well, mixed reviews but I;ve heard lots about this guy so I;ll give it a go....
I like the 'thinking about life' idea..... so we'll see how I find it..It's not very long either...
Hmm, really not sure....found it all a bit strange to be honest.. Could see the point nbehind it, the whole finding the good in your life, but it all seeemed a bit pointles,s and sadfly, yes was very predictable, as the yarn she was told really didn't seem believable in the first place somehow...That said it did make me think about the state of people's mind can change accroding to life's paths, and according to what we are led to believe.....

As others have said the story was predictable, but also thought provoking. This will either go to the next meet up or Durham OBCZ
