7 out of 10

The Mineral Palace is very well written. It is daring and imaginative. Bena Jonssen's life is hard. She believes in signs and omens, and she begins to question her beliefs about good and evil. Set during the Great Depression--in a mining town in Colorado--and peopled with unusual characters, The Mineral Palace is a strong, moving book. Highly recommended.

Another loaner from Moondancer2002. I'll return it to her after I finish so she can decide where it goes next.
