Interesting. Clever fictional musings, but the literal "subtext" is an awkward device - are we meant to read it as a footnote, or before, or after, the main body of the book. And who says we aren't able to understand a subtext without it being spelled out for us, anyway? You could even be post-structuralist or something and say that the subtext itself has an unspoken subtext.
