I'm willing to LEND books from my Personal Collection (PC) to RESPONSIBLE individuals, on the condition that you return them to me when you're done. Please see my profile for details.

The long-awaited follow-up to Harrison's debut novel, Dead Witch Walking certainly doesn't disappoint.

From back cover:
It's a tough life for witch Rachel Morgan, sexy, independent bounty hunter, prowling the darkest shadows of downtown Cincinnati for criminal creatures of the night.

She can handle the leather-clad vamps and even tangle with a cunning demon or two. But a serial killer who feeds on the experts in the most dangerous kind of black magic is definitely pressing the limits.

Confronting an ancient, implacable evil is more than just child's play -- and this time, Rachel will be lucky to escape with her very soul.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I liked this book even better than the first one, and that's saying A LOT since I already thought that one was great.

This book continues the story of Rachel Morgan, her pals Ivy the Vampire and Jenks the Pixy, and her arch-nemisis Trent Kalamack. Having first read the first book in this series, Dead Witch Walking, definitely adds a lot of much needed background history to what's happening in this one and even ties up a few loose ends that were left dangling (on purpose) in Dead Witch Walking. Though the author does a good job of filling in the blanks and providing a glimpse into past history and events from book 1 as needed in the story, I can see where not having read the first book would've left you not feeling as strongly about certain events or characters in this book. So I'd definitely recommend the reading Dead Witch Walking first if you can.

Rachel Morgan is a Witch, but in this world, Witches, Vamps, Weres, Pixies, all live among humanity and are part of a separate species known as Inderlanders. Witches look almost just like humans, but for some important differences in their DNA composition such that the 2 species cannot cross-breed.

In this book, Rachel continues her quest to try to bring down Trent Kalamack and is given the opportunity when she's asked to help the FIB (Federal Inderland Bureau) to solve a series of Witch murders taking place in the Cincinnati area. Ivy's struggle to remain a non-practicing live vamp continues as a strong subplot, as does Rachel's relationship with Nick (a human, who Rachel met in book one when he was transformed as a rat and she as a mink).

I'm looking forward to book 3 in this series, Every Which Way But Dead, to be released July 1, 2005.

Lent this to my friend Holly to read. I put a BookCrossing label inside in the hopes of getting her to journal her thoughts on it when she's done.

Update 5/31/05 - This book is back with me now.

The second book in the triology just picks up where the first one had left and it didn't take me long to get back into the seedy underworld of vampires, demons and pixies and such likes. Same as the first one I did like the tongue-in-cheek approach. Depart being a witch, Rachel finds it hard to cope with such mundane things like paying rent (I know how she feels)and ends up taking a job that maybe she shouldn't have (also a feeling I am familiar with)...A great read !! Thanks again CheriePie for this bookring, sorry it took so long and will send book on to CandyDarling soon. She requested only book 2 to be sent just now so will start on book 3 soonest

Wow, this is the sixth ring book to arrive within a week! I hope it won't take me too long to get to this book, as in November it will be two years since I read the first book in the series, Dead Witch Walking.

Journal Entry 10 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Thursday, May 03, 2007
I'm sorry it took me so long to get started on The Good, the Bad, and the Undead! The second book in the series was definitely better than the first, which I thought was a bit too long-winded. Thankfully, in this book, Rachel wasn't trapped as an animal, instead we got to read about scary demons, vampires and magic. Kim Harrison has managed to create a fascinating world, and I'm glad to see we get to slowly learn more about it, while Rachel is solving crimes. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the third book!

This arrived last week. Sorry from not journaling it sooner, I haven't had much computer time.

Thanks for including me in this bookring, Cherie

Journal Entry 15 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Thursday, September 06, 2007
Better than book one but I still didn't like the way Vamps are being depicted. Ivy and Rachel's relationship didn't make any sense to me until I saw that it was also in Rachel's best interest. It is a little easier to swallow that subplot now.

I jusy PMed boogal for her address, so if she responds, it should get into the mail this weekend.

Thank you Cherie for letting me join this bookring. I am very much looking forward to book three.

Edit Sept 14: Sent by surface mail on Sept 10

I tried really, really hard to like this series, but I'm giving up on it. I picked this book up several times because I felt I should like it, but now I feel like I'm forcing myself to finish reading it. Thanks so much, Cherie, for letting me hold on to this one for so long and giving me a chance to try this series. I'll be mailing the book back home to you tomorrow.

Journal Entry 18 by CharmedKim from Secaucus, New Jersey USA on Monday, March 24, 2008
Sent home today to CheriePie.

Thanks everyone for taking such good care of my book and making sure it got back home to me. This is one of those series that I want to eventually get Mike and my sister reading too. Well Mike, I dunno... do you think guys will like this? But my sister for sure. Actually, it may even go to my dad's girlfriend's daughter Julie too. :)
