9-8-2005: I'll be honest. There are many different religious beliefs out there. The rapture isn't one of mine. Regardless, I just started this book last night and haven't been able to stop reading. If anything, it's still really good fiction.

The book is about what happens after rapture occurs. Rayford Steele and his daughter Chloe are left behind- while Rayford's wife and son are taken up. Their stories become intertwined with that of hotshot journalist Cameron "Buck" Williams and preacher Bruce Barnes.

Some parts of the book struck home with me on a personal note. Not all having to do with religion. Here are the ones that affected me most.

"He had drunk more during that period than ever before or since, and the marriage had gone through its most trying time. He was frequently late getting home and at times even fibbed about his schedule so he could leave a day early or come back a day late. Irene accused him of all manner of affairs, and because she was wrong, he denied them with great vigor and, he felt, justified anger.
The truth was, he was hoping for and angling for just what she was charging. What frustrated him so was that, despite his looks and bearing, it just wasn't in him to pull it off...
Somehow he knew now, though he had never allowed himself to consider it before, that she couldn't in any way have been as naive or stupid as he had hoped and imagined. She had to have known how vapid he was, how shallow, and yes, cheap. And yet she had stayed by him, loved him, fought to keep the marriage together." And they say the wife is always the last to know?

"For months she had been drifting from him, from both her parents. She had been sullen, cold, independent, sarcastic, challenging. He knew it was all part of growing up and becoming one's own person, but it was a painful, scary time." How true!

Going to send to the winner of the 6th Tiara Sweepstakes. :) I see that you have one of the kids Left Behind books on your shelf & hope you'll like this one. It'll go in the mail on my next trip to the post office. Enjoy. :)

Thank you. I have the second one in this series, but I didn't want to read it without reading the first.

My husband and I just read this. It was a very good book. He was much more impressed with it than I was, but we are both looking forward to reading the rest of the series now.
