A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius: Based on a True Story

This is a hardback edition which I NEVER buy, but it was soooooo highly recommended to me when it came out that I splurged. I felt it was extremely self-indulgent, occasionally very funny and generally overrated. Would love to trade for a copy of The Corrections, another book I've heard so much about, Oprah aside...
Swapping with BookCrosser LaRue for The Corrections..book's in the mail, LaRue, thanks!!
Book arrived today! Will read it and post comments.
Disappointing. The book swings between well-written sections and getting "precious". And staying precious for pages and pages and pages. The tone isn't original, either, pretty much "Holden Caulfield Grows Up". Make sure you take the author up on his advice to skip the introduction, beyond pretentious.

Received it today! Looking forward to reading it.
UPDATE: I didn't enjoy the book as much as I felt I should have. There are touches of pure genius in both style and observational powers. But, in the main, it's a very hard slog to a not very satisfactory conclusion.
