Don't know why, but for some strange reason I can't seem to get through the book. And since I saw that is has been here for a long time already, I decided to stop reading it and sending it to the next in line.....

Thanks Croixdeguerre for sharing this book; I'll let you know if I want to read it again at the and of the ring...

I have read quite a few Nicci French novels over the years, but either this is the worst novel they ever wrote or I have definitely outgrown the genre.
In the beginning it is very hard to keep reading as the protagonist (Holly) is highly unlikable and you feel that all the bad things that happen to her are her own fault, so she should live with the consequences of her actions. But gradually it becomes clear that there is a reason for her behaviour. I suspected this way before the authors mentioned it, but okay, maybe now it would get interesting. Well, it didnot and the end is highly unsatisfactory. Where the heck do you find a friend like this Meg? She should get the Nobel prize for unselfishness! Meg, Todd, Charlie and Naomi are implausible, one-dimensional characters. Sorry I cannot be more positive.
Maybe the next reader totally disagrees with me.

Ontvangen! Bedankt voor het toesturen Suzy26!

Journal Entry 8 by Digimike from Beekbergen, Gelderland Netherlands on Thursday, August 4, 2005
Well, Suzy26, I totally agree with you! I have read better novels of Nicci French... It took a while before I was moved by the story, so the first half of the book I read very slowly (a few pages a time). However, after a while I wanted to know what would happen next and I read the second part of the novel in one evening. I think Nicci French wanted to experiment with psychological diseases and change in 'right' and 'wrong' (the 'good' and 'bad' guy are the same persons in this novel while in other novels often there is one bad guy, who is only bad), but I think they need some more practice on this experiment...
But I am glad I read it. Thanks, Croixdeguerre for sharing it! As soon as I receive the address of Lot12, I will send the book to her.

I will start reading this book as soon as I finish my current book. Looking forward to it, but I fear it might just be more of the same...

Thanks Lot12! Good guess on the address.

CAUGHT IN GOUDA ZUID HOLLAND NEDERLAND

I realise that my last entry was anonymous. Oops!

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW***

I did not like this book very much. It was very contrived. The heroine was very unlikeable (and stupid!). Even though she's supposed to have a mental illness, I found it hard to believe that anyone would let their live get so out of hand.

Not up to their usual standard.

Journal Entry 13 by Hellehond from Utrecht, Utrecht Netherlands on Tuesday, October 4, 2005
Although the entries are not very promising, I'm looking forward to read this book. Thanks, mumtotwins, for sending it, and Croixdequerre for ringing.

Very good story about someone with a bipolar disorder. I enjoyed every page of it. The main characters where convincing and 'round'. The suspense in this novel is less important than other Nicci French Novels, it's more like a psychological novel.
On to Caprilaser with it.

Just received this book from Hellehond - thank you! Looking forward to a bit of escapism!

Wow! It arrived here exactly one year after its registration ;-) So looking forward to read it, but I'm afraid it'll have to wait some weeks or even months :-(((

Edit, August 5th: I started reading the book today (finally).

Edit, August 13th: Had to pause reading due to another ring with 29 readers waiting :(
