Brookmyre always gives you the feeling that while he could write the most fantastic of thrillers, he prefers to poke a little fun at the genre, himself and his generation and just about anything else his focuses his acerbic mind on. For those, particularly male, of a certain generation - mid 30's, he is an essentially read. For other he will be merely enjoyable.
This book is not part of the Paralbane series and can be read a a good stand alone. Plenty of back story that only comes to light in drib and drabs that gives that impression that this most outrageous fantasy could actually be believable. Seriously good fun.
