I picked up this book while I was in India, upon the bookseller's recommendations. This is a very dense book, and am still struggling to finish it. The author merges the mythical legend of Mahabharata with the historical events and characters of modern India (past 100 years), to create a fictionalised epic. Reminds me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez style of writing - a bit surreal, very much magical realism.
