This is a book about a young girl who gets trapped in a world far away from her own, and has to figure out how to get home again. Most residents of the USA have seen the movie, but not read the book. Aside from the basic plot, it could almost be an entirely different story -- right down to the color of the shoes, which are silver in the book (and red in the movie). This particular edition has an ugly cover and ugly illustrations, but nice big bold type for easy reading on the bus or subway.

Ah, how I've missed Oz. As a child, I read all of the books in the series, reading The Wizard has inspired me to read them again.
