I pulled this book from goygirrl's modern fiction bookbox. Looks interesting.

I've received a copy of this book on tape, which I'll be listening to in the car next week. So, I'm sending this copy to Bosnia & Herzegovina to sudokugirl, who picked it from a VBB at Book Obsessed.

I really enjoyed the story. I thought the prose was wonderful and the story will stay with me for a while. I'm quite interested in the thougths and feelings of those who are "collateral" participants in history's autrocities. The narrator of this book is a German citizen who lived after the defeat of the Nazis, but who unwittingly becomes romantically involved with a woman who used to be a SS guard. His reflections about his father, though just a small part of the story, particularly struck me.

I definitely recommend this book.

This book kept me company on a very long trip and I enjoyed it immensely. The story is pretty straightforward and yet it raises some interesting questions. I'd definitely recommend it.
