Received in trade. Plan to read soon.
I really enjoyed this book - it had a lot of stuff about where many products and and structures we have today came from.
There were a lot of things about Chicago I didn't know before reading this book - including the saga of a certain serial killer.

Many apologies - I've had this book, as the first recipient in its bookring, for at least a couple of weeks now, and just forgot to journal that it arrived safely. It's been on the TBR shelf since arrival, and I'm just starting it today. Will journal again when I'm done.
Thanks to davidotto and biojohnlefty for sharing.

This has been a very interesting read. The author has obviously done an incredible amount of detailed research, and has an engaging and lively style that puts you in the middle of the action. The juxtaposition of the creation and building of the World's Colombian Exposition in 1892/3 and the horrific serial murderer who worked just around the Fair's edges is fascinating. It's also neat to understand the social culture of the times, as well as read information about famous names who were involved in the planning and execution, such as the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, creator of NYC's Central Park and Boston's "Emerald Necklace" of green spaces. I'm very glad to have had a chance to read this.
I've PM'd the next reader in the list and will send the book when I get the address.

Rather than hold this ray up. Life has become very busy. I got a copy of this book from frugalreader since I really want to read it. I contacted cisco for a mailing address so I can move this on its way.

I received this last week and have already started it. I believe Michelledunn is still interested, so when I'm done it will detour back to her. Thanks!
