This is an outstanding book, very enjoyable. Having come from a small town, I found so much of this story had a real resonance with me. Lawson has an easy, beautiful voice that was a pleasure to read. (I hate to admit that it made me cry while I was laughing.) Her ability to create a clear, true sense of life is as powerful as anyone I've read.

I had such high expectations going in to this read, but couldn't finish it. Perhaps it's the time of year, I'm not sure, but it was just too depressing for me...

I am always surprised that when I least expect it - I am offered a book that I normally would not choose - and find it wonderful. I could not stop reading until I reached the end.
