Crichton fans will probably enjoy STATE OF FEAR, but I had a difficult time getting through it. To me, it was a very complex read jumping all over the map (Iceland, Antarctica, Arizona, Solomon Islands, Paris, and Los Angeles) and with too many characters. Usually the book jacket does a fairly good job of summarizing the author's objective and the plot of the book...but not so with State of Fear other than "gripping, thought-provoking, etc."
It is a mix of science (global warming) and various intelligence agencies and there are some page-turner chapters with a good ending...but getting there for me was difficult!
