This is one of my favourite books. It is a bit slow to start with, but I just love the idea that ancient myths and legends stem from truth. Magic in todays world is seen as something just showy and fun, I love reading about ways in which magic is used "for a reason". I would love to know that real magic existed! Magic aside... the past world Merryll is a part of, on the surface is so different to today's world, but the same basic problems arise! History really is doomed to repeat itself!

It would be fascinating to read a sequel to this book! Pity one wasn't written!
