I picked up this cute little cat-cartoon book at a local Annie's Book Stop. The concept's simple: cartoons of the cats of the rich, famous, or merely notorious, demonstrating the theory that our pets grow to look and act like us. [OK, it's just a theory!] Joan Crawford's cat is thrashing a bound-and-gagged kitten with a coat hanger; Rodney Dangerfield's cat is being ridiculed by a bunch of mice (who clearly "got no respect" for him). Other entries are a bit more controversial (or, as some would say, in poor taste): the Rev. Jim Jones' cat has just expired next to an overturned jug of Kool-ade, for example. Or, for slightly more subtlety, there's James Watt's cat happily peeing on the environment. From all this you may be able to deduce what Julia Child's cat or Ted Kennedy's cat are up to, but I'll leave those as a surprise for the finder. Funny/shocking/sometimes-distasteful collection, this.

Journal Entry 5 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Monday, April 18, 2005
A huge sack of books arrived today - too late for the convention, unfortunately, but they'll still be greatly appreciated by the Christchurch Bookcrossers, and a few might end up travelling over to Australia for the Brisbane convention in June.

I really *have* to put this one on my TBR pile, don't I? ;-)

Many thanks Gory, and nekki!

A lot of the cartoons were totally lost on me, because I had no idea who the celebrities referred to were, and some of them were just silly, but there were a few more subtle ones that I quite liked - I can't decide if my favourite cat is Leonard Nimoy's or Yehudi Menhuin's.

It's the 23rd cartoon in the book (it doesn't have page numbers) that's decided me on who this book has to be passed on to. Hopefully they'll be in Brisbane, so I can pass it on then...

Amixed bag of cartoons from the gross, to the dark hummour yet oh so very funny, to the huh? kind. Some I did not 'get', others I did. Overall though, had a good chuckle.
