Ann Rogers is a Society Photographer with a problem she is on a downward spiral of drug abuse and shoplifting. This would appear to be a reaction to her less than normal childhood. She was the model for photographs taken by her emotionally unavailable father. There is a planned retrospective of his works which cause a lot of contraversy as they show Ann in poses which beg the question of whether they are art or pornography taken when she was a child. The show is a catalyst for the disintegration of Ann's life complicated by her Diabetes. Her eyesight is being affected by the drugs she is taking. I got a real sense of the panic that Ann faced and the intrusive quality of the pictures especially with the reactions of other people to them. There is some hope in the connection that Ann makes with the babies who have been abandoned in the hospital she visits once a week. Not necessarily an uplifting read but one of the most absorbing I have read recently.
