Orchid Fever
4 journalers for this copy...
This is a great book. It's a travel book but also contains everything you need to know about orchids. The world of orchids is dangerous, tangled with legal problems and fanatics and absolutely fascinating. I have always had and orchid in my home since reading this book. They have grown with varying degrees of success and failure. The one I have now has been flowering constantly since last February. This book will make you want to go out and get one.
Released on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at about 1:00:00 PM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at Angel Inn, Nr Briggate in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England United Kingdom.

Got the book in the mail a little while back, but I kept forgetting to journal it. Thanks so much, Sterile, for the book and the lovely bookmark.
I read the first two chapters on the subway this morning, and it is, so far, absolutely fascinating. It's amazing how people will find something to obsess about.
==================
Absolutely fascinating, not so much for orchid details, but for the portraits of the international orchid burocracy and the orchid fanciers underground.
As in every endeavor, this book show how even well-meaning pencil pushers with the power of institutions behind them do more damage than good, and how most of them are far from well-meaning. And how independent amateurs can accomplish almost anything in the service of the thing they love.
