This hardback book was given to me by a dear friend whom I met in Israel in 1972. She got this book as a present; later, she gave it to me to read.

I've had this book in my possession for at least 20 years! I finally got around to reading it now (2004 going into 2005). Better late than never! :-)

It's the memoirs of a woman who, in 1972 and at middle age, decided to immigrate to Be'er Sheva, Israel.

I'm reserving this book to send as a trade to a Canadian book-crosser, jessibud, who expressed interest in reading it.

Well, this book is now off to jessibud! It's not in all that great shape as the last few chapters are coming apart from the binding in clumps of about 10 pages each. :-( I kept the pages in order hoping that jessibud can still read this thick volume.

About the book...I started off really liking it and laughing at the experiences the author had when she was a new immigrant to Israel. I especially liked her description of how to do "sponja" (a method of washing the bathroom floor unlike anything else done anywhere else in the world) and was laughing out loud at this.

However, as I tried to move my way through this very thick book, the reading became more and more tedious. I was less interested in all of the tangents the author went off on later. I found that the more I read, the more quickly I wanted to just finish this book.

The two subjects I most liked reading about were how the author felt living in Israel during the Yom Kippur war and what it was like to have her son come to visit her.

I'm afraid this book is very dated and of very limited interest. I'm glad to have found jessibud who will get a lot from this book, I think. At least both she, the author, and I know what it was like to adapt to living in Israel in 1972-1973! I hope jessibud enjoys hearing what the author has to say.

Good traveling, dear book! You've been a good companion on my bookshelf all these years!

This book arrived today as part of a trade. Thanks, SqueakyChu! I look forward to reading it and comparing notes!

I hope to fulfill my end of the trade very soon...stay tuned!
