Told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1958, The Poisonwood Bible is the story of one family's tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

I really enjoyed this novel, I've come away from it questioning it - which is always a good sign.

The story is of Nathan Price, a baptist who takes his family to the Congo in '59 and the narration of the story comes from his wife Orleanna and his children. Too long in places, at least a hundred of those pages could have been taken out, if not more - and I did feel that Nathan could have been a bit stronger characterisation wise, or perhaps I just didn't connect with that character in the story. Worth the read, although it wasn't as intense for me as it was for others who have read and reviewed it.
