A very good book. Exactly what I needed to be reading with my life how it is at the moment. Short stories being easy to pick up and put down as they are.
My favourite story in the book is the one by Nick Earls 'A battle with the English equipment'. Hilarious scene with him in a noisy English pub being interviewed by a reporter from 'The Times', and wondering about his 92.5 per cent Kmart undies.
I also enjoyed the Irris Makler story 'From Russia with Love, Sweat and Steam' and Sarah Macdonald's 'Country of Love' as two very nice bookends to all the stories.
PMing next reader now.

Looking forward to dipping into this travel anthology. Received from Brdgrl. Thanks, LeafOfHumanTree for sharing!

12/5/05: My darling grandmother has passed away, so have been in my hometown for the past 10 days. I took this book all packaged up, and posted it off to Catherine yesterday!

I really enjoyed this anthology of stories. The writers were terrific. I particularly enjoyed Nikki Gemmel's writing. Sorry I can't put much more coherent together than this...synapses are not firing right now. All I can tell you is that I really appreciated the quality of the writing which is often missing in travel memoirs. Thanks again Leaf for sharing this.

I have enjoyed all the books I have read in rings started by LeafOfHumanTree so am looking forward to this one too. Looks like there are some great contributors.

Thanks Readinator for the cool postcard of Little Johnny in his undies..it is now living on the fridge.

I enjoyed this anthology and was particularly engaged by all the female contributors, their humour and interesting writing. My favourite was Irris Makler's tale of her time in Moscow and I will seek out her book "Our Woman in Kabul". I will also check out more Nikki Gemmell and pay more attention to Caroline Overington's newspaper writings in the future.

Time for this book to travel home.
