The translation seems a little stilted but then it was originally written in the french of the 1700's. Yes its graphic, yes its full of descriptions of things you probably wouldn't want to actually think about let alone do, but its full of philosophy as well. The Philosophy of the Libertine, and reading it from that viewpoint it can be very interesting, and you don't mind the overy graphic nature of it all after a while... infact after a bit you wonder why others aren't as bold and forward as the Marquis was... its upfront nature is something you rarely read in anything written today that claims to be literature.
