"The car is the key to life in the suburbs", Sawyer announces. "There's not much you can do without it." With this announcement she takes us on a ride around Britain where she attempts to discover exactly what 'Suberbia' is and if it can actually 'be' defined/explained. We cover golf, wife-swapping, curtain twitching, to wash or not to wash the car on a Sunday... You get the idea I'm sure!
I spotted this in a charity shop and it looked interesting - I'm glad I did pick it up but I was a little disappointed in it. Yes there are a lot of astute and wry observations but not as many as thought there may be, nor was the humour continuous or even, in places that funny.
As an adult brought up in Suberbia and who has attempted to rebel against it ever since it was fascinating in places - some areas could have been my life growing up but towards the end the book started to feel very 'samey' and I struggled through the last few chapters as it just wasn't holding my attention at all.
