Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
5 journalers for this copy...
Garrison Keillor it ain't -- but it's close enough.
Sent to fellow-BXer as trade at the beginning of January -- I THINK, as I failed to journal this at the time.
(ETA: Not sent till Feb. 3 -- it hid away in the wrong box.)

Happy Birthday fellow BCer!

this could not have arrived at a more perfect time. A friend and I watched this movie together over Easter weekend. I had accepted this book on a relay a short time ago, and I began reading it this week. My friend saw I was reading it and begged to get it when I was finished. Now that I have a second copy we can read it together. The timing is just too perfect! Thank you so much raindrop162004!
WHEW! This one took me so long to finish, but April was a long busy month. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the movie, so I wasnt sure if I would love the book too. The movie does not follow the book exactly and I think I liked the book better. Except for the ending. I liked the movie ending better. The book gives more insight into the relationship between Idgie and Ruth. You also get more of a feeling for the rest of the characters. The story is told from many different points of view, and different time periods, but it is not at all difficult to follow. A true story of love and friendship and loss throughout the years.
Thanks for the trade Saphyre. Funnily enough, after we arranged this trade, I found another copy of this book at Goodwill. (Always looking for more books to cross...)
I read this book many years ago when it first came out. I've got several others of Fannie Flagg's books on Mt. TBR - really should get around to reading them, since they've been there for years.
This book will be going along with my thanks to a local English professor, who has been wonderful enough to add BookCrossing to her college curriculum, resulting in a great increase in local BC activity.

I waited for years to read "Fried Green Tomatoes." I enjoyed it very much. I enjoyed knowing who Mrs. Threadgoode was in the book, and I wondered why the directors of the film chose to leave out her connection to Idgy. Well, at least it's a Hollywood movies that didn't entirely botch the book. Thanks, MaryZee for getting the book to me. Would you like me to return it or leave it in the wild?

RELEASE NOTES:
This was a fun read, and I think the novel is even better than the movie, which I must confess to loving. The relationship between Iggy and Ruth, however, is explored in more depth in the novel, and the constraints of mass appeal rather simplified their relationship in the movie. I would not, however, classify this book as "humor."
