What a lovely book! I have enjoyed the few Jodi Picoult books that I have read and this one was no exception. While the other books I have read by her have been mysteries, this one explores relationships, in this case the one between mother and child.
Paige was abandoned by her mother when she was 5 and is brought up by her father. At 18 she runs away from home intending to attend art school but ends up working in a diner. She meets a med-student from a rich family and marries him and when his family disown him ends up supporting him through his studies. When she becomes pregnant things start to fall apart. I can't say any more without spoiling it for any future readers so I will leave it at that.
Anyway thanks again for sharing this!

Edited to say that I gave this to my mother to read, her first Jodi Picoult (I am trying to broaden her reading tastes!) -she enjoyed it and is now on the hunt for more by the same author.

I was given this book some time ago by boreal but I found that I couldn't get engaged with it so I have given it to Lyttletonwitch for her to either read and release or release.

I suspect that 'contemporary fiction' or whatever this writer is classed as may not be for me or it may just be this one book. We will see.

This book was given to me weeks ago and it accidently got buried under some other books, surprise, surprise in my house. An author I haven't read so will give it a go.

Picked up at last night's meetup. Not sure when (if) I'll actually get a chance to read it, but I don't think I've ever read any Jodi Picoult before, and a new author's always a good thing ;-)

I love the way Jodi Picoult manages to tell a story from both sides, so that you end up sympathising with the "bad guys" as much as with the heroes. In this book, at the same time as you're siding with Paige, you can't help see things through Nicholas' eyes, and see that where a lesser author may have painted him as cruel, from his point of view he's being perfectly reasonable.

I definitely have to read more of her books.

Picked this book up from FutureCat at BXing dinner at Cafe Bleu last night (12/06/07). Have read two other books by this author - My Sister's Keeper and Picture Perfect and find her an easy and enjoyable read.
