I like a bit of murder between the highbrow books, and I particularly like p d james. I can't quite put my finger on it, because I find adam dalgliesh (main detective) a bit remote and robotic. Perhaps it's the good plots, the elegant and well-constructed prose, the inexorable development of the story, and the slightly old-fashioned air to it all. Anyway, enjoy.
