In Graverobbers Wanted (No Experience Necessary), he took a job digging up a shallow grave.

It turned out badly.

In Single White Psychopath Seeks Same, he took a job as a bodyguard at a seance.

It turned out worse.

But now, meet the new, improved Andrew Mayhem. He has a real job. He's a better father and husband. And he's vowed to quit accepting money from strange women in coffee shops to perform tasks that go terribly, terribly wrong.

This time he's just taking a relaxing camping trip with his family and best friend. No shortcuts. The gas tank is full. The sinister warning of the crazy old man is taken seriously.

Unfortunately, when you're Andrew Mayhem, you just can't help being attacked by a group of savage killers bent on inflicting ghastly torture and bringing horrific death. Relentlessly pursued through a booby-trapped forest, it's one crisis after another as Andrew fights to protect his family, loses a body part or two, and faces the single darkest moment of his entire life.

Action-packed, twisted, and completely outrageous, Casket For Sale (Only Used Once) is the funniest and scariest Andrew Mayhem adventure yet!

Excellent, excellent Andrew Mayhem story! Jeff Strand's books are like a train wreck of outrageous clowns; you can't look away, it's gruesome, and you laugh your tail off.

I think this has been my favorite Mayhem story in that there was a couple of surprises that made me think "no way, that didn't just happen" and another that had me giggling like crazy.

I highly recommend all of Jeff Strands books, and his Andrew Mayhem series is the icing on his literary cake.

WOO HOO!!!!! I didn't realize this bookring had started out! :)

I currently am reading "Mandibles" by this same author and it's just not doing anything for me. Hopefully Andrew Mayhem won't let me down though. I've loved all of the books in this series so far!

I hope to get started on this very soon... thanks yllus!!!

Wow! VERY refreshing after having just read "Mandibles" and disliking quite a lot. I mean, it was good, but not what I expect from Jeff Strand.

Anyway, this book was just as good as the other Andrew Mayhem books, but not nearly as grossly disturbing IMO.

Thanks again for sharing yllus!!! I'll confirm with Cherie that she still wants this and try to get it out very soon. :)

Off to CheriePie

Journal Entry 7 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Saturday, February 11, 2006
Just got this today. Unfortunately, the previous 2 books of this series never made it to me, getting lost/stalled with another BCer before getting to me. :( So hopefully I can pick up this series mid-stream without feeling like I'm missing too much from the previous books with regards to character development, etc. I've had both the previous books in my wishlists and on watch at eBay to see if I could pick up an inexpensive copy, but no luck so far. Should be able to start on this soon.

Journal Entry 8 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Wednesday, February 22, 2006
This was my first book by this author, the previous 2 in the series getting lost or stalled before making their way to me. Though this story reads well without having read those first, there are plenty of references to past events that happened in other books so I think reading those first would've enhanced this one even more with regards to knowing the characters better, and understanding more about past events.

In this book, Andrew has decided to become responsible. No more of the wacky capers that have gotten him into so much trouble in past books. Unfortunately, while heading out for a vacation with family and friends, trying to do just that, the group is accosted by a strange gang of freaks. And their methods are anything but normal. It's a fast-paced story and the wit and humour of Andrew reminded me very much of Hitch from the Hitchcock Sewell series.

I've messaged LaurieS to confirm she still wants this before putting it in the mail to her. (Will update this entry with posting status once complete.)

UPDATE 01-MAR-2006: Mailed to Laurie on Thursday, March 2nd. It's only about an hour drive from my house to hers so let's if the PO can get it there in a day or two. :)

This one arrived today. I'm just finishing up a book and will get to it next. More as I get it read . . .

Sorry for the delay, I got caught up reading "Marley and Me" (about a man and his wacky labrador retriever) which a co-worker foisted upon me and once I started it I was unable to put it down.

I only started this book last night and didn't get very far before nodding off but I did very much enjoy what I did read before exhaustion kicked in. I particularly liked the fact that the author didn't bore me to death with back story just alluded to his past adventures in a snidely funny way.

This was one wacky book. Something about the writing reminded me of Joe Landsale who also successfully mixes humor and atrocity. Someone earlier posted that this book wasn't as disturbing as the previous books so I was quite shocked at some of the violent turns this book took. I can only imagine what happened in the previous books and now I have to find them ;) As I was reading, I could almost see the writer with a mad smile on his face, gleefully rubbing his hands together, while he plotted one over-the-top scene after another. I enjoyed this book a lot even when I thought some of the plot turns were ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing. I PMed the next in line yesterday and am waiting on a mailing address.

This was a quick and weird read. Very gory and bloody in spots but so outrageous that it was almost like a cartoon and a pretty funny one at that. I just had to suspend believeablity and go with it. Oddly enough even though the situations the characters were in were way over the top, the characters themselves rang true. You liked the ones you were supposed to be rooting for and the others, well, let's just say they didn't exactly endear themselves to you. Although I think I did feel a little sorry for a few of them in the end. Somehow I could see this as an animated short.

Sending on to buffra as soon as I either find her address from other mailings or she replies to my PM.

Mayhem is the word! I make a point of not reading previous journal entries before I read a book, but now I wish I had read these beforehand. I was taken completely off guard by the violence and gore. I expected this book to be a little lighter (Stephanie Evanovich or Carl Hiaasen speed). I too am shocked at the journal entry that says this book is not as gory as previous ones in the series...egad!

Anyway, once I reconciled what I had expected with what I was reading, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I whipped through it in one day. It reminded me of the movie Pulp Fiction; I was laughing out loud but covering my mouth because I couldn't believe I would laugh at anything so gruesome. It takes talent on the part of an author to pull that off.

I'm going to have to try to find the first two books from the series now.

Thank you, yllus, for sharing this wacky book with us. I'm off to PM the next person now.

Update 8-10-06: Mailed to sarradee today via media mail.

Came in the mail today, have a couple ahead, but it looks like a quick read so it shouldn't take long.

That was a quick read, it fairly flew by and I was turning over the last page before I knew it. I'm absolutely going to have to look for the other books in the series, I enjoyed this one so much. It was gruesome, and gross but like a train wreck, impossible to look away from.

I've got babykittysmama's address and I'll be popping this in the mail in the morning.
