I'm afraid I was a bit disappointed with Bryson in this book. I read the one in which he travels along the Appalachian trail and it was a good read.
Here, I must say that I was mad at him sometimes. At the beginning he was charming, but little by little I was annoyed by the way in which he talks to people (he's rude sometimes) and some of the places he called ugly (Oxford's really that ugly ??!!!).
At the end of the book, he writes "I like it here". But sometimes he appears to dislike most of it :-\
I reserve this book for a special challenge that should be fulfilled next September (hush, hush, this is a secret... mostly) :D
Thanks sterile for sharing this book. I know only Cornwall and both people places were so great there : I can't imagine England to be any other way !

This will be taken to an OBCZ in Oxfordshire within the next couple of weeks.

This book has been on the shelf in the Cherry Tree for a while - so I am pleased to have found someone who I hope will want to read it. My NSSEB (Not So Secret Easter Bunny) partner has 'anything by Bill Bryson' on their wish list - so I took this book hoping they have not read it. I was then upset to see it already on their shelf - then pleased again as they had passed the book on without reading it!
So to my partner - this time this copy is for you to read - don't worry if it takes a while - after all it has sat on an OBCZ shelf for 7 months - I am sure the previous readers will be pleased it willbe read again!

Sorry I'm late journaling this, but I received it, along with other goodies of the chocolate variety, from Weebly for my NSSEB :O)
I loved this book :O)
I'll be back to do a proper JE but this is to say that I'm probably going to give this to welshmerlin to read, and then it'll probably be going on a ring.
