I found this book a fascinating background to Simon Rattle's inspirational work with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

On its way to Bookmaniac in Bulgaria.
Got it from the mail today.I was wondering for some time what happened to this bookray and was glad to find the book waiting for me.I^m reading two books for rings at the moment, and besides I receive two more along with this one,so it may take me some time to get to it. Of course I shall try to be as fast as I can.
I am reading the book and have few chapters left until I finish. It turned to be really really interesting for me professionally.Rattle is not my top one conductor and I have a lot of reserves about him but he has always intrigued me and I admire his work and especially what he did with CBSO.I was surprised to find a very honest account of his musical development;no empty eulogies,no false praises, just the man with his brilliant talant and many shortcomings. As an orchestral player myself,I was very interested in the sections of the books where Rattle`s relationship to various orchestras was discussed. It is true that each orchestra has its own way of playing on its best and certain misunderstanding may arise even when the guest conductor is a well-known musician.I was satisfied that many things from Rattle`s character and way of working which I merely guessed watching his concerts, turned out to be right, such as his friendliness with the orchestra players, his self-consciousness,the awareness of his own imperfection and a strong will to improve;his ability to inspire musicians and make them give the best performance.
I will keep it for few more days until the end of this week to read and discuss some excerpts with my husband (we both are musicians).I expect to be able to ship the book to Portugal next week.

Got it! Thanks bookmaniac70 :-))
I think I'll take a while to start reading it, because I have a few rings ahead (why do bookrings arrive all at the same time??)... Well, but ASAP I'll read it and say my opinion about it.
Thanks for sharing it.
