Stones from the River
4 journalers for this copy...
Grabbed from the clearance rack at the UBS.
Since Mt TBR is rivaling Everest, I've opted to send this out on a small BookRing while I work on scaling the mountain. If you're interested in joining this Ring, please visit this thread for details.
Updated: Have obtained another copy so this ring will now be a ray and the book does not need to come home to me.

On it's way to Czersk in Minnesota - enjoy!
Just received in the mail today. I hope to get to it as soon as possible, or, if all else fails, Christmas break is coming soon, and I foresee A LOT of reading during the holidays.
This was not a fast read. It took me awhile to get into the story and appreciate Trudi Montag as a character. I pitied her, not for her size, but because of her need for revenge. But I stuck with the book, and with Trudi, until Stones From the River morphed into a story that I know I will never forget. Trudi grew, not in a physical sense, but in way that made her more endearing, respectable. She never lost her edge, she wouldn't be Trudi without it, but she became a character a reader could get close to. A wonderfully unique story. Definately worth the reading.
I'll mail this to Hoserlauren today.

Received this one today.
Thanks for sending it, I've started reading it, but have a feeling it's not going to be the fastest read!

I also found this a slower read. However, it was an exceptionally written book. I didn't really like Trudi as a character that much, but enjoyed her father and Max, and the background characters. While Trudi's constant need for revenge didn't bother me that much, her hypocritical and gossiping nature annoyed me. She wanted people to like her and be her friend, yet she wouldn't be friends with the other "freaks".
There were also some comments about Germans and Jews (during the war in the book) that bothered me - such as the treatment of the Jews after the war, and how the characters in the book thought their treatment was too good. There were many hypocritical little things like that in the book (because they said this after they said that the Jewish didn't deserve to be treated as badly as they were during the war).
In any case, it was a captivating story.
I will be mailing this out to PCSAF this weekend (I'll post here and let you know when I've sent it).
