Norman Corwin's Our Lady of the Freedoms and Some of Her Friends
4 journalers for this copy...
This is one of a pile of audiobooks I got yesterday on sale at Marden's. I'm not sure when I will get to all of them. This one concerns the Statue of Liberty and features Charles Kuralt.
Of the three books on tape involving Charles Kuralt I have listened to, this is my favorite. It concerns the struggle to get the Statue of Liberty built and the aftermath of its placement. It was created for National Public Radio as a 4th of July piece, and it is unabashedly patriotic and peppy. It includes little vignettes acted out by actors--they're almost a little too cute but they do work, even though they sound a little like a serious work by the Firesign Theater (and, it turns out, one of the voices used is Phil Proctor, who was and is part of Firesign). If you're not cynical, this tape of about one hour will leave you in a happy mood.
I mailed this book today from Manchester, Maine to my parents in Wisconsin. I may well get it back when they are done with it.
My parents in Wisconsin finished this and sent it back to me. It's now available for trade.
Got this in the post today, thanks!
