Received today - will get to it asap.

A very interesting book and very educational too. I can't help but think the author is blaming a bit too much on the fast food industry though. Not sticking up for them, but I don't think they have caused everything the author seems to say either.

His "What to Do" section is very thought provoking. A book I would recommend to everyone.

I feel horrible for saying this but I am going to pass this book on unfinished. Health issues have come between me and reading and I don't think it's fair to keep this book from someone else. I am waiting for an address and then I will send it on. All my best to all of you, and happy reading!

Journal Entry 6 by outofreach from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, May 3, 2005

well, well.
i can't say i liked this book. i found it highly repetitive, the author goes over the same points many times and doesn't really introduce new facts.
additinally, the small chapter about germany was just outrageous. i never understood why editors are not able to get someone to proofread foreign sentences, place names, ... and how can he say that germany is the largest country in europe. look at a map man. it isn't by far - neither in size nor in population.
somehow this one sentence about germany's size made me question the whole book. i was wondering if all his research was as 'truthful' as the stuff he said about germany!?

okay now i have to say at least something positive. one thing was completely new to me and that was the stuff about the slaughterhouses and meatpacking industry. i didn't have a clue and it highly disturbed me. it makes me wonder if the australian and european market are as cruel as the american is and i guess, there won't be a big difference if it really is like he says.

i will send this book on to follygirl tomorrow.

Received this book today. Thanks.

Journal Entry 9 by wingfollygirlwing on Wednesday, June 8, 2005
I have decided to pass this book along. I read several chapters and jumped to things I was interested in reading. I have learned a lot about the fast food nightmare over the last year and this book just repeats it for me.
I will get this out in the mail to newf when I get her address. Thanks for starting this ring spaceystacey :)

Journal Entry 10 by newf from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador Canada on Wednesday, June 15, 2005
Just received this in the mail and will read it as soon as I have finished my current novel. Since I'm flying to Calgary tomorrow and will have plenty of time to read on the plane, that shouldn't take long.

Well, this was thought-prokoking indeed. I also skipped a bit; I found the chapter on food-borne illnesses to be nothing new. What I did find interesting was the history of fast food, and the details of how the industry and its franchise model have affected so many aspects of our culture. It puts into words some of the things that I've been thinking for a while now, as I travel from one homogenous, sprawling city to another. The suburban landscape is the same now no matter where you go.

The chapter on the meatpacking industry made me wonder how similar things are in Canada (far too similar, I imagine). I never ate a lot of fast food to begin with, but this will certainly make me think twice.

Sending off to Tblack44 today.

I decided to pass on this book since I thought it was a different book! I just found out the book I thought it was is "Super Size Me." This book is being sent to kevlarsen this afternoon!

Journal Entry 15 by kevlarsen from Batavia, New York USA on Tuesday, August 2, 2005
got the book and read it. I got it a couple days ago, but didn't log until just now finishing the book. I didn't realize it was the hardcover edition. Also nice picture BookCrossing registering plate.

This book kept making me hungry. I wanted to eat some hamburgers and things. The middle part with the slaughterhouses I wasn't so hungry though. :-)
I liked the book. It was very informative and written in a engaging way. My personal political views coincided with what the author was saying as well. I wonder though if business-minded Republicans might take offense if they read it.

Now PM'ing next person on list.

Didn't know readinator lived in Australia. Even though I sent it "surface mail" is was still very expensive (for a used book) to send. It'll take like 2 months to get there.

sent today.

Journal Entry 17 by Readinator from Woodend, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, October 25, 2005
This book is a scary expose of the fast food industry, as well as a very interesting history of the industry in America. I found it fascinating, both how the industry came about, but also the technology that was developed to serve it. It is making me think long and hard about the ethics of the choices I make as a consumer.

Thanks very much spaceystacey for sharing this one. Off to writergrl next. Sorry I didn't journal this on receipt (in mid to late September)...still working through a backlog of bookrings after life got busy. Sorry for the holdup.

27/10/05: writergrl advises she has read this, so on to dospescados, when I get a postal address.
