Given to me by a friend to 'dispose' of.
the blurb-
New century, new parliament, new Scotland.
In fact, it's more like the early nineties, with bedroom morality once more dominating the political agenda, with cabinet careers back in the gift of the tabloids and the clergy having delusions of relevance. It is precisely the sort of scandal Jack Parlabane was born to investigate. Problem is, he'd have to get out of jail first, and several of his fellow inmates haven't forgotten the investigative hack who put them there in the first place......

Here we go again yet another author who insists on letting everyone know just how Scottish they are because they can write in dialect. It is an instant turn-off for me and had this not been another bookcrosser’s book I may not have persevered beyond chapter one, which would have been a great shame.

Any book with large amounts of speech in dialect I find tiresome and laborious although it did work to make Fooaltiye a loathsome little character. Christopher Brookmyre also manages not to over use it, something other authors could learn a lesson from.

I could imagine Boiling a Frog making a fantastic film, that is if the content could get past the BBFC. Scotland’s answer to Lock Stock.

As for boiling a frog, you have to read the book to see why it makes sense.
