I really enjoyed this book. Sort of like Girl, Interrupted but with adults (and I think I actually enjoyed this book more), Notes from the Country Club is the story of a woman undergoing psychiatric evaluation before she stands trial for the murder of her husband. She is convinced of her own sanity, but as she adjusts to institutional life, she begins to have doubts. I won't say a lot more, for fear of spoilers, but the flashbacks to her married life combine with the experiences of the other inmates to build up a clear picture of why someone could be led to such a desperate act.
Probably not a book for everyone, but I seriously couldn't put it down.
