Ben Elton's writing style has certainly mellowed since his first couple of books, which had the same frantic, impossibly fast-paced feel of his stage act. This book is much calmer, without any ranting monologues, but Elton still manages to get digs in at a huge cross-section of society. It's funny that the sympathies of the book lie (mostly) with the conservative (with a small c) policeman... my how age has changed you, Mr Elton!
