From Lytteltonwitch's garage.
I've read Little Women, but not any of the other books of the series, so I'll probably get round to reading this one day (or the other copy I somehow managed to pick up at the same time!)

Didn't enjoy this as much as Little Women - it seemed to have many more "preachy" moments, and less of the sense of enjoyment of life that the earlier book had. Maybe it was just because Jo grows up and discovers the "joys" of domesticity.
I was also annoyed to discover that this is actually an abridged version - not that it says so anywhere on the cover or title page - you have to search the copyright details before you find the little mention of "this abridged edition...". Grrr - if I read a book, I want to read the *whole* book, not discover later that I've missed out on whole chunks of it! I consider it false advertising to abridge a book and then not mention it clearly on the cover.
One weird thing - I've definitely never read this book before, yet I recognised the passage where Beth is dying (ok, so that's technically a spoiler, but it's pretty clearly telegraphed in the text from early on). Not just remembered that she died in this book, but recognised the actual words used for the couple of paragraphs before it. I must have run across it as a quotation somewhere else, but I can't think where - I can't think of anything I've read that's likely to have quoted Good Wives!

Left on the table at the Convention Dinner tonight, and wasn't there at the end, so either someone picked it up, or it's gone in the mobile OCZ.

Journal Entry 5 by catsalive at Skyline lookout in Queenstown, Otago New Zealand on Monday, March 28, 2005
Sorry it took me so long to make an entry - I haven't been near a computer in a while. I found Good Wives on the top of the gondola ride up to a great view of Queenstown in the women's bathroom (tee hee). It definitely caught my attention because I am travelling and have been reading lots when moving around, plus I loved Little Women and haven't read any of the others yet. I am almost done my current book, then I will read this one and then release it whereever I am at that point which will be somewhere in Australia.

I left this book in Sydney, Australia at the cafe in the IMAX theatre over a month ago and it was gone when I came out of the movie so someone must have taken it!
