Posting to WildeFaerie as a trade for Jane Austen Book Club
Received in the mail today from LyzzyBee! I'm looking forward to this read. My daughter is now reading "Girl with a Pearl Earring" so maybe I'll pass this on to her when I finish.
EDITED 2/7/05: Finished this one today. I definitely liked it and will look for more of Chevalier's work (although I heard that "The Virgin Blue" wasn't worth it).
This book is now available!

RELEASE NOTES:
In the mail today to lauraloo29. :) Enjoy.
Arrived today. What a lovely looking book! I don't think it will be going too far down in the TBR pile. ;) Thank you!
What a wonderful story! I love reading a story from different characters' perspectives. I realize this a fictional story, but it seems quite plausible.
I referred many times to the pictures of the tapestries. I really would love to see them in person or at least the full picture. I've found pictures on the internet, but I'm sure they don't do them justice.
Sending to KarinAlyssa as part of the "International Reverese Wishlist Relay" Relay. Enjoy!
Received yesterday, but had connection troubles. Thank you LauraLoo29 for fulfilling another wish of mine !
One of my favorite books of 2005 was Falling Angels written by Tracy Chevalier and I was excited to read another of her books. I love tapestries, the era the book was set in and also unicorns, so I was sure to absolutely fall in love with that book. Sadly, my expectations were set so high that I was disappointed.
The Good : Great writing style making me turn pages quickly, Interesting story about weavers and the era
The Bad : Undeveloped characters slightly caricatured who acted without reason, Superficial story
The Ugly : Overtly sexual tone that didn't bring anything really to the story except if you admit that sex can be the main locomotive in a novel

Arrived safe and sound in Buffalo, NY today. Thanks, KarinAlyssa!
We knew we were going on a car trip this past weekend so we went to Book Outlet to find an audio book for the trip. I knew that finding one that we both were interested in hearing was going to be a challenge, so when
r pulled the
audio version of this book off the shelf I was pleasantly surprised.
We both liked the story (I have to admit, though, that we were extremely amused by some of the sexual descriptives: "ploughing," etc). The story does suck you in so much so that we had to bring the last CD into the house with us so we could finish it up - we didn't want to wait until the next time we'd be in the car together.
One of the things we liked best was how the author switched narrators throughout the book, giving different perspectives on the story as it was taking place.
Personally, I think this has been my favorite of Chevalier's books (so far I've read
The Virgin Blue and
The Girl with the Pearl Earring).
I'm going to set this copy aside for my mother (chargoyle), who loves historical fiction. After she reads it, I think it will make a good offering for the historical fiction virtual book box that we're organizing on the
bookrelay site.
(
r and I compromised on the star rating)
I'm mailing this to Makita21 tomorrow.
She accepted it as part of the
Mythical Creatures relay.
a well travelled book, how wonderful. arrived today safe and sound, thank you :)
going to frangipani08, the lucky winner of the Crazy RABCK competition.
Congratulations,hope you enjoy the book!:-)
Thanks Makita21! I enjoyed The Girl With the Pearl Earring so this should be another good read.
As others have commented, I kept being drawn back to look at the tapestries. The weavers of this time were very talented people but this story humanized them and made me realise how difficult their job could be. It is amazing to us in this time of sexual liberation that a story about a unicorn could be used as a tool for seduction! To be released next weekend at a special meetup for Sally906's visit from Darwin.

RELEASE NOTES:
Gratefully received, to be released at the convention in October. Thanks from the convention committee.
Could NOT resist this one on the 'Table of Temptation' at the convention - love her work and really looking forward to this one. Thanks!
Wonderful book which I really enjoyed - I have come across these tapestry designs several times in unstitched canvases, in fact I have some which I haven't stitched yet, but I've never really understood the story behind them. I really appreciate all of the information about the millefleurs and the unicorn story, also the descriptions of the weaver's household and how tapestries were made.
Passed on at meetup this morning.
Oh! This is a well traveled book. Picked up at the Melbourne Brunch Meet Up this morning, after many recommendations.
