This is another book that I have greatly enjoyed, but which is gathering dust now on my shelves.
I've read the book after seeing the film, it is hard to say if one is better than the other, I think both are brilliant. The film helped me to understand and get through the book, because the language was quite a challenge. "A vernacular spectacular" as it is called in a quote from the Scotland on Sunday on the back of the book. With the film in mind I have tried reading parts out loud which made it a lot easier.
Mind, this is not a book for the faint of heart. Harsh subject matter and strong language. Life as tough as it can get.

Welsh's use of colloquial Scottish also makes the book difficult to read sometimes, though, as I said, it was the actual subject matter and the imagery that I struggled with...
An important book - and a challenging one - but not really for me.
