At first, I wasn't sure I'd like this so much. After it, it is Ray's debut and it couldn't possibly be as good as Eat Cake, the first book by Ray I'd read (a little over a year ago).
Surprisingly, not only was it every bit as good, but it also gave me a lot of food for thought in my own work.
A short synopsis, since no one's done it yet: For years, the Rosemans and the Cacciamanis have hated each other. No one really knows why. But when Julie Roseman runs into Romeo Cacciamani at a business conference, sparks fly ... first of the romantic sort and then of the family sort.

This was waiting for me when I arrived in Ohio today! Thanks so much for sending it, WoM!
This is a cute modern version of Romeo and Juliet. I'd forgotten that it was destined for Hoser, so thanks for the reminder, girl! ;) I've popped it in the mail bound for the great white north!
I enjoyed this take on Romeo and Juliet, though there were a few over the top moments. It raises good questions about why to continue a feud whose origin has been long forgotten without hitting you over the head with a moral. This was not my favorite Jeanne Ray novel, but encourages me to read more of her work.

Unfortunately the great white north isn't to white today :( Looks like we're not going to have a white Christmas.
Received this in the mail today. Thanks a lot Ri!! I'm looking forward to it.

The Rosemans and the Cacciamanis have hated each other as long as they remember. Running competing flower shops, many bad things have been done to each other, including salting rose bushes. But when Julie Roseman meets Romeo Cacciamani at a conference, all she feels is wonder about why this feud has gone on so long. The two share a coffee, and then dinner, and then all hell breaks loose when their children find out that they have spent time together. Navigating between their angry family and budding love, can their relationship survive and can they figure out what they are all fighting about anyways?
This book is a simple romance and easy to read. Though I really do wish the author had come up with an easier last name to read than "Cacciamani". I'm sure there are a lot of other, shorter Italian last names that could have been used. It was nice that the love story didn't involve 20-somethings, but actually 60 year olds, putting a more mature twist on the story. It was cute but nothing special.

Romeo Cacciamani and Julie Roseman are competing florists in Somerville, MA, whose families have feuded for generations. Romeo's son Tony and Julie's daughter Sandy tried to date in high school but the families made sure it didn't get very far. Romeo and Julie meet at a small-business seminar and start a love affair that will not be happily celebrated by either of their families. Even though some of the family has no clue about how the feud got started, it still goes on, hurtful as it can be. Will anyone get out an olive branch?
This book has over the top situations that are just plain funny. A plain old-fashioned romance on the Romeo and Juliet theme but the protagonists are in the 60s. This is a welcome change from the girls with their flowing locks and fluttering eyelashes and guys with their brawn and might.
As an aside, I read the sequel first and consider it to be better than this book
