Wilhelm is one of my favorite authors. I like her SF from years ago, and I like the mysteries she's been writing for the past 20 years. Her current series is about lawyer Barbara Holloway. This collection is from an older series, about retired arson investigator Charlie Meiklejohn and his wife, psychologist Constance Leidl.
There are two complete novels in this book, "Sweet, Sweet Poison" and "The Dark Door." "Poison" includes a funny couple from New Yorkest-New York who strike it rich and retire to the "country." "Dark Door" includes a touch of what may be either SF or the paranormal, one could interpret it either way, but in any event it's nonetheless an excellent mystery.
Then there are three novellas/novelettes (I can never remember the difference): "An Imperfect Gift" (about a previously unknown Van Gogh), "Torch Song" (in which Charlie is suspected of serial arson) and "Christ's Tears" featuring buried treasure, the FBI, the Mexican government, the Catholic Church bureaucracy, and the Mob.
Altogether an awful lot of good reading!

I loved this book. Each story was unique and very interesting. My Favourite was Sweet, Sweet Poison. I have not read Wilhelm before and will definitely look for some other books by her. Each of the stories although mystery in nature had a little twist. Thanks fora truly great read!
