A nice read. This is my second copy, because the first copy's original owner didn't want it split up from the RABCK that it was sent with.
Sending to Palomaranch as part of a bookrelay. Enjoy!

'Received in the mail today from lauraloo29 as part of the Authors with an "S" relay.
Here are excerpts from a review that convinced me this book is a gotta-read.
"brilliant classic study of life in the Depression era"
"hailed by critics as one of Canada’s great novels"
"one of the most complex and arresting characters in contemporary fiction"
"a landmark work"
"essential reading for anyone who seeks to understand the scope and power of the Canadian novel"
Thanks so much, lauraloo29!

I rather doubt that this is truly "one of Canada's great novels" but it IS definitely a worthwhile read. Philip Bentley is a frustrated painter who has settled for life as a preacher during the time of the Great Depression. The meager life that Philip & his wife lead on the Canadian prairie is both brightened & deepened when a boy comes to live with them.
This novel is written in diary form by the unnamed wife. I don't usually care for this format, but the author's expertise creates a seamless narrative. 'Beautiful imagery.
Thanks, lauraloo!
