Bought for less than £4 in Tesco :) Looks really interesting. Here's some of the blurb from Amazon:

The Dupayne, a small private museum in London devoted to the interwar years 1919 -- 1939, is in turmoil. As its trustees argue over whether it should be closed, one of them is brutally and mysteriously murdered. Yet even as Commander Dalgliesh and his team proceed with their investigation, a second corpse is discovered. Someone in the Dupayne is prepared to kill and kill again. Still more sinister, the murders appear to echo the notorious crimes of the past featured in one of the museum’s galleries: the Murder Room.

Sounds like just my kind of book!

Disappointing.
Maybe it's because I saw the TV adaptation a while ago, or maybe it just wasn't my kind of book, but I found this quite hard to get into. I struggled to feel much compassion for most of the characters, and was not all that bothered about the case, really. I was not feeling too well for most of the time that I was reading this book, which may have tainted my view, as I had minimal energy, but I still read some books while I was feeling like that which I really enjoyed. Hopefully someone else will find this book more enjoyable than I did.

I liked these two bits, though:
When Dalgliesh picks up Ackroyd at the exit of the underground car park on their way to visit the Museum: "Ackroyd was standing near the revolving sign looking like a child obediently waiting for the grown-ups to collect him."

From Dalgliesh's training by his sergeant in the CID: "All the motives for murder are covered by four L's: Love, Lust, Lucre and Loathing. They'll tell you, laddie, that the most dangerous is loathing. Don't you believe it. The most dangerous is love."

Chelseagirl very kindly collared me a pile of crime thrillers at the recent Oxford meet-up, knowing how hard I find it to lay hands on English language books here.

My luggage was overweight already so unfortunately they had to be left behind, but they'll be heading back with me next time I have the car.

Thanks for sharing :-)
