Patrick Bateman is Harvard-educated and intelligent. He works by day on Wall Street, earning a fortune to complement the one he was born with. His nights he spends in ways we cannot begin to fathom - doing impermissible things to women. He is living his own "American Dream".

To be honest I dont understand what all the fuss is about with this book. I found it really hard to get into and didnt really 'like' any of the characters. I much preferred Christian Bale in the movie Version!

Arrived today ... safe, but not sound! Apparently, customs ripped into it and then repackaged it. :) Anyway, its here, none the worse. Thanks for sharing!
Um. Disturbing. Excellent commentary on society at that time (actually, could easily be applied to current lifestyles, as well), on privilege, on letting people get away with too much. The fact that Bateman is such a sadistic misogynist behind his veneer is actually not all that surprising. His psychotic episodes are written into the story without any breaks in continuity, and so it is easy to view this as one whole person who is incredibly f'ed up. The only real jarring parts of the story to me were the few chapters where Bateman detailed the entire catalogues of various musicians - this just didn't fit. I would be interested to see the movie, but it seems to me that it would be impossible to capture the horror and ferociousness of his acts in anything less than a snuff film. Despite the fact that I felt the commentary was precise, I am also not certain why this book is so highly acclaimed, as it reads in parts like cheap porn for men who severely hate women.

Came in the mail today... I have been wanting to read this for some time now, thanks SO much for sharing it!
I found this book quite interesting. There were some really funny parts, and the surrealism of it all was just fantastic. Some of the murder scenes were among the most graphic I've read (being a huge horror buff, that is saying a lot), and to go from such a graphic scene to a group of yuppies discussing the best bottled water.. yeah, like I said, quite surreal. I'm glad I read it, I will now pass it on to someone who I think will enjoy it as well.

*sigh* And yet another pseudo-"classic" falls by the wayside. I just couldn't get into this! I struggled through the first 25 pages or so and then tossed it aside, saying I'd get back to it but haven't managed to do so yet. Rather than let it gather dust on the shelf, I think I'll take it with my on my spring break trip and wild release it on the road. Thanks just the same, Jare!
