The year is 1557 and Francis Crawford of Lymond must serve the King of France for a year before he can return to Russia, where he believes his destiny lies. But Philippa, his wife-in-name only, devotes her days in the hazardous search for the truth about the past, and the future of her enigmatic husband.

This arrived this morning. Thanks Mastulela. Oh! Almost forgot; thank you for the *gorgeous* "Leaping Carp and Wisteria" bookmark. It's a style of art that I love.

Part of me is really excited at the arrival of Checkmate because I get to find out what happens next, and the other part is desolate because this is the final installment in the Lymond chronicles.

Really looking forward to reading this - and sad to be on the last one. Iwant to make it last, and find out what happens, what a dilemma.

Katweeble's post has made me realise that I forgot to review Checkmate before I posted it, darn it!

This is the last in the Lymond Chronicles. As ever Dunnett writes an entertaining combination of high adventure, court intrigues and romance. And as ever, I nurtered a deep desire to give Lymond a good shake and a swift slap.

Perhaps the most interesting character to follow through these chronicles has been Phillipa, who has developed from an unpromising beginning into the veritable swan.

There is little that I can add without revealing some of the unexpected and alarming plot twists. Suffice it to say that I thought this was a super book and am *so* grateful to Mastulela for making the Lymond Chronicles available on a spiral.

Thank you!

I enjoyed the story, but wanted to shake Lymond a few times like Mytilus. I would also like to thank Mastuela for making this series available as a ring- it has been a lovely experience reading books from this period again. I had never read anything from a Scottish perspective before.

DH retrieved book from the sorting office yesterday for me as it was too big for the letterbox. It's starting to feel a bit like a conveyor belt now as I only posted off the previous Lymond book to Wiblick on Thursday to make a little bit more space here!!! (Time to do some more releasing in Melton I think....)

Oh well, it's the last one in the series so I hope it all works out well for Lymond and Philippa but I'm sure there'll be a few more traumas to contend with first....

I'll begin reading it possibly next weekend as, again, I have just started to read an exciting thriller!

A few heart stopping moments in this final instalment to make me catch my breath and I'm glad too that there were no loose ends left at the end.

A wonderful series. Thankyou Mastulela for sharing these books with us. It's also a relief to come to the end, only so that I can now seriously attack Mt TBR!!!

The collection is complete. As I think I already said I look forward to settling down with these once I have my own home and reading them right through. Babs says she's in no hurry.
